Debate on Medicinal Cannabis: Attorney General Suthers vs. Attorney Rob Corry

On April 7th 2010, at University of Denver Strum College of Law, our Attorney General John Suthers and attorney Rob Corry, went head to head in a Medical Marijuana debate.

Many key issues were brought up during the debate, and Corry excelled at providing clear and logical answers.   One of the most intriguing moments was to hear Corry use Suther’s own words against him.

Corry paralleled Suther’s health care lawsuit against the Federal Government , asking Suthers on behalf of the state of Colorado why, “we cannot opt out of the drug war against marijuana, but we can opt out of Health Care Reform?

Rob Corry went on to say that the multi-billion dollar war on drugs is a failure.  Statistics back Corry’s statement, and that may be why our Federal drug czar is now refocusing the war on drugs budget towards education and awareness.

Rob Corry also quoted Suthers statement about Medical Marijuana when Suthers said, “Medical marijuana is a smoke screen for life long pot heads to get high.”  Corry was reminding the audience that Suthers is not up to date on the science, research, and facts that marijuana is a MEDICINE.

Suther’s antiquated believe doesn’t change the fact the US Federal government holds patent #6630507 on the cannabinoids within the marijuana plant.  They recognize them as antioxidants and neuroprotectants.  Research in America is at the tip of the iceberg.  Medical Cannabis has so much more potential than is embraced.  We look forward to the day where the truth and science behind cannabis is no longer behind any veils, and Rob Corry seems to be able to help lift that veil.
